This conference is the third to be organized by the Nordic Network in Development Economics (NNDE). The network includes junior and senior professors, young economists, as well as graduate students. Members of NNDE include Finn Tarp and Henrik Hansen in Copenhagen, Peter Svedberg and Jakob Svensson in Stockholm, Arne Bigsten and Dick Durevall in Göteborg, Karl O. Moene and Halvor Mehlum in Oslo, and Bertil Tungodden and Gaute Torsvik in Bergen.

Keynote speakers at the conference will be
Professor Timothy Besley, London School of Economics,
"The Quality of Government in the Small and in the Large"
Professor Paul Collier, Centre for the Study of African Economies, Oxford University,
"Development and Security"

The conference is open for submissions within any sub-field of development economics. Ph.D.-students are encouraged to submit papers and to participate in the conference. This will be an excellent opportunity for economists working on development issues to share their ongoing research with a wide range of colleagues from all Nordic countries.

Please note that the conference will take place in conjunction two Ph.D. courses given in Copenhagen on How to Evaluate Development and Econometric Aspects of Programme Evaluation: Evaluating Social Programs - Econometric Cost-Benefit Analysis.

Conference participants are expected to finance travel and accomodation by their own means or by support from their home universities. Two lunches and one dinner will be paid for by the conference organizer. There is no conference fee.

The department in Göteborg has made preliminary reservations at two hotels in the neighbourhood of the school, Hotel Excelsior and Hotel Vasa. The hotels charge SEK 635/745 and 650/785 for single and double rooms respectively. Participants should make reservations through Eva-Lena Neth (see below).
