  • 18.4 million in funding for research on climate and economics

    [7 Aug 2020] Two economic research projects at the School of Business, Economics and Law have been awarded funding from the research council Formas, to investigate connections between climate and economics.

  • An ambitious climate policy is economically beneficial

    [4 Aug 2020] An economically optimal climate policy is in line with the Paris Agreement's 2-degree temperature target. This is according to a new study involving the University of Gothenburg, Chalmers University of Technology and others. The study updates the cost/benefit analyses of climate measures made by Economics Laureate William Nordhaus.

  • New data confirm that African American convicts partly replaced slave labor in the US

    [29 Jun 2020] The large overrepresentation of African Americans in the US prison population can be traced back to the institutions that emerged after the abolition of slavery. Using new data from prisons records and historical census, a study from the University of Gothenburg confirm that the high levels of incarceration in the US started, at least in part, due to labor scarcity in which African American convict labor was used to replace slave labor.

  • He wrote a thesis about the origins of cultural divergence

    [22 Jun 2020] In his doctoral thesis Hoang-Anh Ho asks why differences in culture and institutions arise across societies. His dissertation focus on land rights and the origins of the individualism-collectivism dimension across modern societies.

  • Open position: Research assistant

    [22 Jun 2020] The Department of Economics at the University of Gothenburg has announced an open position as research assistant. It is a full time employment, limited to twelve months.
