Funding

All doctoral students will be financed during four and a half years from day one. During the last two and a half years, 20 percent departmental duties (usually teaching) are required. There are also a number of students in the department who are externally financed (by Sida for example). External funding is encouraged, and in most cases such funding will imply that the student will have more time to finish their thesis.

The long-term aim of the department is to be able to finance course work with faculty funds and thesis work with external money. Those who obtain faculty finance get it one year at a time, and at the end of each year the Board of Research and Third-Cycle Education evaluates the work of the student. If it is not satisfactory with respect to the study plan, faculty financing will be terminated.
