About Jens Ewald

Jens Ewald is a research assistant at the Environmental Economics Unit at the Department of Economics. Jens has a master’s degree in economics and has, in addition, studied political science, development studies, mathematics, and climate change. Jens’ main research interest is instrument design for climate and environmental policy. He is particularly interested in distributional effects, political acceptance, and efficiency of environmental policy instruments. For his master’s thesis, Jens examined determinants of energy demand in the European residential sector using dynamic panel data techniques. Jens has also a background in studying development issues and has previously worked as an associate researcher at the Program on Governance and Local Development. For his bachelor’s thesis, he conducted a field study in India, examining the relationships between microfinance and child health.
