About Melissa Rubio Ramos

My research interests are labor and development economics, with a focus on crime, conflict, and racial discrimination in the justice system. One strand of my research explores the institutional origins of the black and white incarceration gap. In particular, I study the role of slavery on black incarceration in the US by using census and historical records.  In addition, I study how conflict affects local institutions, as well as the consequences of having natural resources on crime.

Further description of my research agenda can be found on my website www.melissarubio.com
