Bachelor's Programme in Social Environmental Science (Smil)

The Bachelor's Programme in Social Environmental Science at the University of Gothenburg is unique in its integration of the environmental and social sciences. Graduates from the programme demonstrate advanced environmental competence across a broad range of disciplines, as well as solid specialist knowledge and an ability to work in networks and project groups.

Some coursework is completed together with science students specialising in environmental science, providing a broad understanding of environmental and sustainability issues. Students also acquire in-depth environmental knowledge and skills by focusing on one of five profile areas: Business Administration, Human Ecology, Economics, Human Geography, or Political Science.

The Bachelor’s Programme in Social Environmental Science prepares students to work with environmental and sustainability issues in private enterprises or in the public sector. Upon graduating, students are awarded two Bachelor degrees – one in the chosen profile area (for example Economics) and one in Social Environmental Science with a specialization (for example in Environmental Economics).

The program is taught and examined in Swedish, but some elective courses are offered in English. For more information, please contact the Student Counsellor (see contact information to the right).
