General information

Open hours:

The department's main entrance (5th floor) is normally open Monday to Thursday 10.30 - 3 p.m. Exceptions for holidays and vacations are posted.

For each course there is a course-plan which describes its goals and gives an overview of the course literature. Classes are normally scheduled in a repeating weekly pattern. The course-plan and class-schedule (usually including a lecture-plan) are posted on the course homepage.

All courses assume that the students work actively with the course literature and possible training exercises during the whole course, and come to class prepared to ask questions.

Most courses which are given at the department end with a written examination. After each regular exam there are usually one or two re-test possibilities during the same study-year.

For written examinations, the following rules apply:

To take part in the exam you must be registered for the course and certified for the exam. You certify your intention to take the exam at the latest one week before the examination-day via the course¿s homepage. A receipt showing dues paid to the student union must then be shown to the examination supervisors at the beginning of the exam. Remember that:
- It¿s your responsibility to be aware of the examination time and place.
- You must show ID and receipt for paid union dues.
- If you haven't certified yourself for the exam, you can only take part if space is available.
- You cannot demand to participate if you arrive more than 10 minutes late.
- You are responsible to verify that you have the correct complete examination text.

If nothing else is announced, only standard materials can be used. If you need to use a dictionary, you must have written permission from the department's study-advisor.

Examination results are posted on the department¿s bulletin board (4th floor, E section). We can unfortunately not give out the results by telephone. - You can collect your exam after the results have been announced. If you don't collect your exam within one year, it will be disposed of. - If you want to take the exam again, the reason for your request must be explained on a special application form which you can get from the appropriate Student Office. The application should be turned in as soon as possible after the results have been posted.
