About Lisa Björk

My research focuses on fisheries management and its impact on fishing avtivity. Fish is the single most traded food item in the world and provides livelihood to a great share of our population. However, the status of many of the world's fishing stocks is alarming. One of the driving forces behind declining fish stocks is overfishing. How should fisheries management be designed to create incentives that allow fishers to carry out fishing without threatening the ecosystems and biological stocks? What happens in fisheries systems when new management regimes are introduced?

A part of my research also foucses on how uncertainty in terms of future outcomes impact on people's willingness to contribute project with a broader benefit to the society. If the information about the futue impact of my current action is unclear, will that impact on the way I make decisions and in what direction?

I am part of the Marine Graduate school at the Centre for Sea and Society.
